Wally, a kitten with three legs, amazed everyone with his quick adjustment after being rescued in Los Angeles. A local shelter made an urgent call for help to rescue a 12-week-old orange/red tabby kitten, who had arrived with a severely injured front right leg and tail, indicating a possible hit by a car. However, Wally’s days of misery were numbered when his rescuer fell in love with his adorable face and decided to take him in. The woman who found Wally in her yard reached out for assistance, and the LA-based Baby Kitten Rescue took him to several veterinarians. They discovered that his leg required amputation as it had no remaining nerve function. Despite losing a leg, Wally adjusted well and quickly to his new surroundings.
When Caroline adopted a kitten from the shelter, she took him to the vet who suggested that his leg and injured tail be amputated due to a brachial plexus injury. Before proceeding with the surgery, they consulted a neurologist. Despite being in pain and on medication, the 12-week-old Wally was very affectionate and loved being petted. Although Wally’s leg had to be amputated, his tail didn’t require surgery. The cost of the operation was high, but the rescuers believed that Wally deserved a happy and pain-free life. Although Wally could do everything other cats do on three legs, he started to self-mutilate by chewing on his arm, which was not under his control. Caroline believed that it was confusing for Wally to have an arm that he couldn’t use. Despite this, Wally remained sweet and affectionate towards his rescuers.
In spite of all the challenges, Wally remains a lovable and affectionate kitten who craves nothing but pets and kisses. Fortunately, the rescue’s supporters were able to raise the funds needed for his surgery and neutering, which he underwent without any complications. Even the vet and staff couldn’t resist his charm and fell head over heels for him.
Although he was initially struggling to walk due to his injured arm, Wally has made a remarkable recovery and is already up on his feet again. However, he has to wear a cone to prevent him from scratching his incision, which he’s not too thrilled about, though I supervise him closely while he eats. To make things easier for him, he later wore a “super cool sock sweater” that he seemed to prefer.
Surprisingly, within a few days of the surgery and a change in his pain medication, Wally was back to his playful self and even running around, although we made sure he got enough rest. Despite having a large incision, he healed quickly, leaving everyone in awe of his resilience.
Caroline happily shared Wally’s quick adjustment to life as a tripod. He was already walking, playing and chasing with only three legs. In just two weeks since his surgery, Wally had adapted with ease to his new lifestyle, healing quickly and smoothly. Baby Kitten Rescue soon announced that a family from Las Vegas who already had a tripod kitty came to meet Wally. They fell in love with him and decided to take him home, making it the perfect happily ever after for the adorable feline.
The folks taking care of Wally are fully aware of his needs and will provide him with the necessary time, attention, and affection to help him feel secure and grow. Wally will be living with two cat siblings, one of whom is also a three-legged feline!
